After Care Instructions

New Dental Work

After today's appointment, if anesthetic has been used, your lips, teeth and tongue may be numb for several hours. Avoid chewing until the numbness has completely worn off. Check carefully to see if your bite feels comfortable and all your other teeth are contacting correctly. If your bite doesn't feel right, DON'T chew on that area. Call our West Hartford dental office to arrange an appointment to correct your bite. This will prevent chipping or fracture, as well as discomfort.

It's normal to experience some hot, cold, and/or pressure sensitivity after each appointment. Your gums may be sore for several days. Rinse three times a day with warm salt water (a tsp. of salt in a cup of warm water, rinse-swish-spit) to reduce pain and swelling, ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be helpful in alleviating any residual discomfort.

Please remember that teeth are for chewing NOT for tools. To preserve your restorations avoid very hard foods and habits such as nail biting and ice chewing. If you are aware of clenching or grinding a bite guard is strongly recommended to protect your teeth from abuse.

If your bite feels uneven, if you have persistent discomfort, or you have any other questions or concerns, please call our office at 860-232-4511. If it is after working hours, you may page the doctor at 860-490-7661. It has been our pleasure to work with you to create a beautiful smile for you to enjoy for years to come!
